- Atlantic City’s casinos are booming as their June numbers show, with the city being fully operational again.
- Almost $400 million was brought into casinos and sportsbooks combined in AC for the month.
- The figures have surpassed even those of June 2019 before the Coronavirus Pandemic hit.
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Atlantic City casinos are coming back to life as they bring in over $345 million in June, nearly four times the amount they saw in June 2020. With the Coronavirus Pandemic easing up on its health safety guidelines, businesses like the casinos in New Jersey have been able to start operating normally again.
The market of land-based New Jersey gambling took a huge hit when they first had to close in June of last year until July. But once they reopened after a month, they could only operate at minimum capacities with a number of rules and regulations in place to stop the spread of the virus.
This really hurt Atlantic City but things are turning around for the better.
“The elimination of COVID restrictions and the return to normalcy bode well for us, as we introduced our reimagined casino floor enhancements at the end of June,” said Terry Glebocki, CEO of the Ocean Casino Resort.
June casino gaming as reported by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) shows that Atlantic City even surpassed gambling figures from June 2019.
How Atlantic City Fared
With the addition of sportsbooks in New Jersey, an extra $48 million was profited in for June with the three racetracks in the area, resulting in a total of almost $393 million for the month.
“For three consecutive months, revenue growth has exceeded 20% compared to the strong results of 2019,” said James Plousis, chairman of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission. “I’ve seen first-hand that visitation to Atlantic City is on the rise, tourists are happy to be coming back, and the summer season is off to a positive start.”
The New Jersey Gambling Industry
Plenty of mobile gambling platforms were used during the height of the Coronavirus which did little for land-based locations. The surge in activity will only continue to grow as more gamblers start to feel better about going to retail venues. That, coupled with the 2021 NFL season coming, land-based casinos and sportsbooks in AC will continue to extinguish their year-over-year marks.
