- Aaron Rodgers has reported to Green Bay Packers training camp.
- While this is obviously good news for the Packers, it could be better news for anyone who has drafted Adams in fantasy.
- Adams’ ADP has been slipping, and with Rodgers back, he could be 2021’s WR1.
GREEN BAY, Wisc. - After a long offseason full of retirement rumors and trade speculation, Aaron Rodgers has arrived at Green Bay Packers training camp.
The return of Rodgers is great for Green Bay, but also casts a pall over those who have done their fantasy team drafts early, as it means a big change in value for WR Davante Adams.
NFL 2021/22 - Most Passing TD's
- Patrick Mahomes +300
- Tom Brady +550
- Aaron Rodgers +600
- Josh Allen +900
- Russell Wilson +1000
The online gambling markets see Rodgers as a serious contender to throw the most touchdowns in 2021, and that obviously boosts the value of his receivers.
Adams has been arguably the best receiver in football when playing, racking up 243.4 fantasy points in 2020 - in only 14 games played. This gave him 17.4 fantasy points per game in standard scoring, which is the worst scoring format for a WR like Adams.
In Half PPR, Adams was a dominant force, putting up 21.5 points per game in his 14 games played. That is the fourth-highest points per game among position players, and one of those position players, Christian McCaffrey, only played three games.
However, Adams’ ADP at NFL fantasy sites spent the summer dropping as the Rodgers-Is-Leaving narrative took hold.
With Rodgers’ return, Adams seems like he could be the clear cut WR1 in every format, especially PPR and Half PPR. However, Adams has still not broken into the consensus top 10 on FantasyPros, with Tyreek Hill being the lone WR in the top 10.
It’s easy to understand the hype behind Hill, as a big play monster on an elite offense, but that also describes Adams.
In standard scoring, Adams outdid Hill in 2020, and in PPR and Half PPR, he was notably above the Chiefs star despite playing one less game. In 2020, Adams gave his fantasy owners elite running back level consistency from the WR spot - an invaluable asset.
NFL 2021/22 - Most Receiving Yards
- Calvin Ridley +750
- Justin Jefferson +850
- Stefon Diggs +850

- DeAndre Hopkins +1000
- DK Metcalf +1200
- Travis Kelce +1200
- Davante Adams +1500
- A.J. Brown +1500
Intriguingly, Adams is still fairly low on the list for most receiving yards at the online sportsbooks, despite being fairly respected in terms of getting his touchdowns in.

The real question for Adams is whether or not a season in which he led the NFL in receiving touchdowns is repeatable. Rodgers is perhaps the only reason why it might be - and Adams is a devastating red zone weapon, which helps a lot.
It’s worth noting that even missing a few games, he was still the NFL’s touchdown leader, which speaks to his efficiency and red zone dominance, as well as his connection with Rodgers.
If he can have another season as the clear cut WR1 on a Rodgers led offense, and the top red zone weapon, he could be in line for another season as the best wide receiver in NFL for fantasy purposes - especially if he stays healthy.
