DURANT, Okla. - Oklahoma’s Choctaw Casino and Resort recently opened a large expansion of their property. The expansion consists of additional rooming, more dining and lounging options, entertainment, and even more gaming options.
The major driver behind the need for this expansion was the desire for the casino and resort to become more of a destination for people from North Texas, both as a casino and as a resort.
Attracting Cross Border Customers
Choctaw Casino and Resort is located about 15 miles from the border between Texas and Oklahoma and that particular location is very advantageous for the casino.
Their proximity to Texas, which does not allow gambling in most forms, means that they can become one of the premier destinations for bettors in the northern part of the Lone Star State.
This is a tried and true casino tactic - opening up a casino very close to the border of a populous state that does not offer gambling.
The Choctaw Casino press release on the subject cited “a goal to elevate the overall guest experience in order to meet the demands of a growing customer base from North Texas and beyond” as a driving force behind the expansion of the resort.
What The Expansion Added
Heidi Grant, the executive officer of gaming and hospitality for the Choctaw Nation, issued a statement that focused on the benefits of the expansion for visitors.
“We wanted to create a resort and gaming experience unlike any other and I am proud to say the expansion rivals anything you would find in Las Vegas,” said Grant. “We are thrilled to showcase everything that’s new for guests from Oklahoma, North Texas and beyond. The attention to detail is incredible. From the amazing Choctaw art on the walls to new gaming options and swimming pools, to hip new restaurants and lounges and exquisite hotel suites, there is literally something for everyone at the new Choctaw Casino & Resort.”
The expansion was centered on revamping the amenities at the casino and resort, which now include more restaurants, lounges, and a collection of Choctaw art.
The renovation added the Sky Tower Hotel, which has over 1,000 rooms within it. This more than doubled the room count at the casino, which now stands at over 1,700.
The expansion also added jobs for those in Oklahoma, according to Gary Batton, Chief of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
“I am extremely grateful to everyone who has played a role in delivering such a magnificent, top-tier entertainment destination for our region that not only elevates the experience for our guests, but elevates the lives of tribal members, individuals and families living across the state,” said Batton. “This expansion means 1,000 new jobs, funding for much-needed services for tribal members, millions in economic growth for Oklahoma, and additional dollars our tribal government invests in education and infrastructure improvements for all Oklahomans.”
