BATON ROUGE, La. - Caesars Sportsbook has partnered with Louisiana State University as the official sports betting partner of the athletics program.
These words would have seemed unimaginable only a few years ago but the world has changed so quickly that schools now have official sports betting partners.
LSU is one of the premier football brands in the nation and holds massive sway as a brand in Louisiana and around the southeast.
This partnership was brought about via the facilitation of Playfly Sports, LSU’s media rights holder, which does put a barrier between the school itself and the sportsbook.
Michael Schreiber, the CEO of Playfly, described his role in the deal in terms that befit a facilitator but also stressed responsibility.
“As a proud partner of LSU Athletics, we are focused on creating innovative partnerships to engage sponsors and unlock meaningful new revenue sources,” Schreiber said. “Given the explosive interest in and access to gaming, we are excited to responsibly bring Caesars Sportsbook and LSU together.”
LSU: Providing Unique Fan Experiences
Scott Woodward, the Athletics Director at LSU, praised the deal as a method to provide fans with a better experience.
“LSU has always taken pride in providing fans with unique, innovative, and world-class experiences, and our new partnership with Caesars Entertainment will do just that,” Woodward said. “We share a clear vision of how athletics and entertainment can come together to enhance the fan experience and we are excited to join with Caesars to make that vision a reality.”
LSU will receive contributions from Caesars as part of the deal, as well as a scholarship fund created by the online gambling conglomerate.
Caesars: Proud Of Their Partnership
Chris Holdren, Co-President of Caesars Digital, expressed his happiness at the partnership, focusing on LSU’s high level of athletic achievement.
“LSU athletics programs have always exemplified excellence, and at Caesars, we couldn’t be happier to partner with such an iconic brand in college athletics,” Holdren said. “We have a proud legacy in Louisiana, and bringing LSU fans closer to the sports they love while also offering scholarship opportunities will help us build upon that.”
The LSU Tigers football team won the College Football Playoff National Championship in 2019, quarterbacked by Joe Burrow, currently QB of the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals.
Sports betting has been passed in 55 of Louisiana’s 64 parishes, but the regulatory process has not yet concluded. It is expected to launch in the coming months, with dates ranging from late September to early October.
When that time comes, Caesars and LSU will be ready.
