COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Betting lines are already available for Week 5 college football games. Some lines look slightly better than others and have strong trends pointing in one direction.
Maryland Terrapins Vs. Iowa Hawkeyes
The Maryland Terrapins will host the Iowa Hawkeyes in a Big Ten matchup on Friday. Maryland is currently just outside the AP Top 25 as the No. 27 team in the country, while Iowa is slated as one of the top five teams in the country. Online gambling sites favor the Hawkeyes but maybe not by enough.
Iowa Vs. Maryland Spread Odds
- Iowa Hawkeyes -4.0 -115
- Maryland Terrapins +4.0 -105
The Iowa defense is as good as it gets, allowing just 11.0 points per game while having faced two ranked opponents. Meanwhile, Maryland has had a great offensive season thus far by averaging 37.3 points on 519.3 yards per game.
The Terrapins have faced lesser opponents and are still allowing more yards and points per game than the Hawkeyes are. In what’s expected to be a low-scoring game, Iowa has the apparent edge. The kick-off is set for 8 p.m. EST on Friday with coverage on FS1.
LSU Tigers Vs. Auburn Tigers
The LSU Tigers, despite being an unranked team, are favored over the ranked Auburn Tigers on Saturday. This season there have been two situations in which an unranked team is favored over a ranked one on college football betting sites. The unranked team is 2-0 both on the moneyline and spread.
LSU Vs. Auburn Spread Odds
- LSU Tigers -3.5 -110
- Auburn tigers +3.5 -110
If the trend continues, LSU seems to be the best bet, however, things seem to be pointing in Auburn’s direction. Auburn scores more, allows less, gains more yards, and allows fewer yards than LSU does, despite having a seemingly similar strength of schedule. Will this trend uphold?
The game is set for a 9 p.m. EST kick-off on Saturday and can be seen on ESPN.
Pittsburgh Panthers Vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Sometimes betting is about looking at the line and taking what the sportsbooks are giving. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets lost to Clemson 14-8 and beat North Carolina 45-22 last week. Now they’re at home against the Pittsburgh Panthers and remain underdogs.
Pittsburgh Vs. Georgia Tech Spread Odds
- Pittsburgh Panthers -3.5 -105
- Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets +3.5 -115
Either the perception of Georgia Tech is simply incorrect or the team has had a couple of fluke weeks. Pitt hasn’t played anybody too respectable yet but is coming off of a 77-7 win. When the lines look this way, it’s usually a safe bet to side with teams in Pittsburgh’s situation.
This game can be seen on the ACC Network at 12 p.m. EST on Saturday.
