- The Arizona Wildcats were +6750 to win the championship just over a month ago.
- Now, Arizona sits at +1400 with the sixth-shortest odds in the country.
TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona Wildcats have closed a lot of ground in the college basketball futures odds as a legit contender for the national championship.
At the beginning of the season, Arizona had +6000 odds to win the NCAA Tournament and cut down the nets. Despite winning their first few games of the season, online gambling sites dropped their odds throughout the first few weeks of the season, reaching as high as +6750.
The Wildcats started the season 12-0 and have seen their odds move all the way to +1400 where they currently sit. They now have the sixth-shortest odds in the entire country.
NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship Odds
- Gonzaga Bulldogs +500
- Duke Blue Devils +750
- Purdue Boilermakers +825
- Baylor Bears +900
- Kansas Jayhawks +1200
- Arizona Wildcats +1400
Although Arizona lost their first game of the season in their most recent outing against the Tennessee Volunteers, their odds remain unchanged heading into the new year.
Why The Odds Have Moved
The Wildcats were unranked at the beginning of the season as their expectations were rather low. Arizona really started to make waves when they beat the then-ranked No. 4 Michigan Wolverines in a convincing fashion.
As their winning streak continued, their odds naturally continued to shorten.
Analytically, the team is rather impressive. Ken Pomeroy’s rankings list the Wildcats as the seventh-best team in the country, just behind the Duke Blue Devils. Arizona scores the most points per game at 89.5 and also allows just 64.0 points per game.
Unfortunately, those betting on college basketball didn’t get to see Arizona play UCLA or USC as the games were postponed, but this allows bettors to get action on Arizona before the odds get too short.
