- Kevin Durant now has +200 odds to be named the NBA MVP.
- Steph Curry is the only player with shorter odds, currently sitting at +140.
NEW YORK – Those interested in betting on who will be the NBA’s MVP can find two familiar faces at the top of the odds boards.
Current NBA MVP Odds
Steph Curry is currently the betting favorite on online gambling sites to be the MVP as he has put up some impressive numbers on the year. He’s averaging 26.8 points, 6.0 assists and 5.3 rebounds, but there is someone close on his tail according to the odds.
2021/22 NBA Awards – MVP Odds
- Stephen Curry +140
- Kevin Durant +200
- Giannis Antetokounmpo +650
- Nikola Jokic +1200
- DeMar DeRozan +2800
Kevin Durant is currently leading the NBA in scoring with 29.9 points per game and is adding 7.6 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game as well. Statistically, he’s easily outperforming Curry. However, the NBA MVP is sometimes an award driven by narrative.
Why Betting Durant Is The Better Choice
Not only does Durant look better on the stat sheet, but he also has the added benefit of having an underdog story to him. For all Durant has accomplished, he has just one MVP in his career while Curry has two. Many will believe Durant deserves his second MVP before Curry gets his third and that could be the tiebreaker in some voters’ eyes.
Plus, those betting on the NBA can simply get better odds on Durant at this point in the season. Even further, Curry just had Klay Thompson return to the lineup and put up 18 shots in 20 minutes on the floor. If Thompson continues to see that much usage, Curry’s numbers are going to fall and therefore his MVP resume would be weakened.
Truthfully, there’s not much going in Curry’s direction other than he’s the more well-liked player among fans. Popularity can bring someone a long way, but Durant’s gameplay should be able to do most of his talking.
