JASPER, Ala. – The Walker County Sherriff’s Department discovered an illegal Alabama gambling den in response to a drug overdose victim on Saturday.
Walker County Sherriff Nick Smith, the Narcotics Division, and Patrol responded to an alleged drug overdose on Saturday night. When they arrived at the illegal gambling establishment on Mays Road, authorities discovered 35 slot machines inside the building.
There wasn't an ambulance called, per reports, for the person who overdosed in order to avoid law enforcement. However, the authorities explained they were somehow alerted of an alleged overdose at the establishment. The person who overdosed was revived and is in stable condition.
Sherriff Nick Smith Cracks Down on Illegal Gambling
The police report doesn’t explain how the overdose was reported or how the cops arrived at the unlicensed Alabama gambling establishment, but police arrived nonetheless. Six wanted persons were arrested at the scene, with four holding warrants from the Walker County Sherriff’s office and the other two having warrants from the Jasper Police Department.
Authorities claim that “The machines were essentially slot machines where cash is inserted directly into the machines.” This type of gambling is forbidden in Walker County, where the establishment is located.
The police report states that “Gambling via the use of predominately chance electronic gaming machines, along with cash payouts remains illegal in Walker County and enforcement will continue as necessary.” There is no Alabama law preventing USA online gambling through sites located outside of the United States.
Walker County Sheriff Nick Smith previously cracked down on an illegal gambling establishment hosting electronic bingo in 2019.
