NEW YORK – There are currently three casino licenses up for grabs after the New York legislature agreed to offer them in March of 2022 and there are many gambling companies teaming up with Real Estate agents to attempt to secure a license.
Only one license is expected to have a competitive bid, and the bid for each license is going to start at $500 million. This license would allow the New York Casino to offer slot machines, sports betting, and live table games to one of the most trafficked destinations in the US, even though they already have access to online gambling sites.
Caesars Entertainment Bidding for Times Square Casino
Caesars Entertainment is planning to bid on one of the Class Three Licenses to implement a casino in Times Square.
This casino would consist of the entire Caesars experience, including the gambling floors, an in-person sportsbook, multiple restaurants, and a full hotel. The process is expected to start around January of 2023 to review applications for the bid and a decision would not be expected until late 2023.
The Real Estate developer, SL Green, and Caesars Entertainment have sent a letter to seek support for obtaining the casino license and explained that a percentage of the gambling revenue would go directly into public safety measures.
Because the area is already connected to crime, these safety measures could consist of at least 50 cameras and drones for surveillance of the area that would have artificial intelligence.
Two of the three New York licenses are expected to be given to horse track casinos in the area. These two casinos would be put in Queens and Yonkers, leaving one license open for serious bidding.
Other Companies Bidding on Third License
- Hard Rock Stadium in Queens
- Las Vegas Sands
- Bally’s Corporation
- Wynn Resorts
Outside of competition for the license, the biggest obstacle facing Caesars building a casino resort in Times Square is the Broadway culture. The Broadway League expressed their lack of support for the idea and encouraged their members to do the same, making it more difficult for Times Square to receive a casino in the future.
