Colorado Avalanche
The Avs have been a powerhouse in the league in recent years and NHL oddsmakers have continued to favor them to start the season. At +450 odds, it ties their shortest preseason odds in the teams history and is also the fourth straight season that they’ve seen preseason odds open under+1000.
Backing their odds is the incredible season that they are coming off of. They were second in the league in points last season with 119 with 312 goals for and 234 goals against for a massive +78-point differential. They also had one of the better defenses in the league allowing just 2.83 goals per game to opponents and the fifth best save percentage at .916.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Leafs finished their season tied for the third best record in the league at 54-21 and are seeing their odds in prime position. At +700 odds, it is the lowest odds that they’ve seen since the 1994-95 season. It is also their lowest opening point in the last three seasons as they’ve seen their odds drop in each of those seasons.
They themselves also had a season to write home about as they finished with the fourth most points in the league with the second most goals for (315) and 253 goals against for a +62 advantage. Their defense also stood their ground with seven shutouts and a decent .904 save percentage.
Florida Panthers
The Panthers could be considered the darkhorse of the three teams under +1000 preseason odds being that they’ve taken the league by storm after opening with +4000 preseason odds just two years ago. Their +900 odds are the lowest opening position in their teams history.
They finished with a 58-18 record last season, the best in the league, led the NHL in goals for (340), and also had the highest point differential of any team at +94. They finished their 2021-22 campaign on a solid defensive note with five shutouts, a .907 save percentage, and 2.95 goals
