LAS VEGAS – Lottery gamblers are now playing for an even bigger prize, as the Mega Millions jackpot soared past $500 million, making it the eighth largest jackpot yet.
After no tickets matched the six numbers revealed during the Friday night drawing, the value of the jackpot continued to grow. If someone ends up with the winning ticket Tuesday, they’ll be able to choose between receiving the prize in annual payments, or a $307.4 million lump sum.
According to a release from Mega Millions, a total of 1,423,423 prize-level tickets were sold for Friday night’s ticket drawing.
A single lottery ticket in California did match the five white balls to win the Mega Millions second prize, and 28 other tickets country-wide matched the four white balls to win the third prize, six of which were worth $50,000 due to the optional megaplier.
The rest of the third place tickets scored $10,000 a piece for the winning players.
The drawings for Mega Millions take place every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. Gambling fans can find tickets currently sold in 45 states, also the U.S. Virgin Islands and District of Columbia.
