In 2019, the New York Gaming Commission approved regulations for digital courier services to operate in the state. Jackpocket is the first company to receive the license to become a digital lottery retailer in New York.
With Jackpocket now live in New York, lottery players will no longer have to purchase Powerball, Mega Millions, and other lottery games tickets in person. Instead, they will be able to do so through any mobile phone or device.
”As a native New Yorker and growing up watching my father play the lottery, being able to use Jackpocket in New York is personal for me," said Peter Sullivan, CEO and founder of Jackpocket. "Jackpocket's mission is to make the lottery more accessible and convenient to play. I'm proud that now it's easier than ever to play your favorite games from anywhere in New York.”
Jackpocket’s launch in the New York online gambling market marks the tenth state the app has called home.

New Yorkers now being able to buy lottery tickets from the comfort of their home or on the go should help the state make up for some of the revenue lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This mobile revolution likely won’t stop at the lottery as New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has also stated he’s open to legalizing mobile sports betting.
With New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo changing his stance to support mobile sports betting, it is estimated that 20% of New Jersey's sports wagering comes from New York residents.

While sports betting might still be months from being live in New York, Jackpocket should be looked at as the state's test run for mobile gambling.
Being able to buy lottery tickets from anywhere in the state via a mobile device will drive revenue and opens the door for much more USA online gambling in New York as they look at what the activity has done for their neighboring state in New Jersey.
Expect even more mobile apps to follow in Jackpocket’s steps as the New York market is primed to grow in the coming years.
