Week 3: Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Los Angeles Rams
The reigning Super Bowl champions, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, are favored in 16 of their 17 games this season by online gambling sites. The one game in which they are underdogs is in Week 3 to the Los Angeles Rams.
The Bucs are only underdogs by a single point, but it brings the question to the table, why is that the only game of the year.
Tampa Bay is favored by at least a field goal in every other game.
Week 2: Kansas City Chiefs @ Baltimore Ravens
The Kansas City Chiefs are not underdogs in a single game this season, but are not favored against the Baltimore Ravens.
The game is listed as a pick ‘em and aside from a Week 18 matchup against Denver where the starters may not be playing (KC -3), it’s the only game on the schedule where the Chiefs aren’t favored by four or more points.
Week 12: Houston Texans vs New York Jets
The Houston Texans are given the lowest win total, worst chance to make the playoffs as well as any other betting line that indicates the worst team in the league.
Now, those betting on the NFL will be unable to find the Texans as a favorite in any of their 17 games with the closest spread being against the New York Jets in Week 12 where they’re only underdogs by one point.
Week 8: Detroit Lions vs Philadelphia Eagles
The Detroit Lions, like the Texans, are underdogs in every game of the year.
However, the Lions have two games in which they’re underdogs by just one point. Once in Week 6 against the Cincinnati Bengals and once in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
If Detroit doesn’t have a win by this point in the season, one may not come as they are underdogs by 7+ points in five of the final nine games of the season according to sports betting sites.
Week 4: Buffalo Bills vs Houston Texans
The Buffalo Bills are listed 14-point favorites over Houston in Week 4 which is the biggest spread of the entire season.
Since 2003, teams favored by 14 points cover just 39.2% of the time, meaning the Texans may actually have betting value against the Bills as surprising as it sounds.
Week 16: New York Jets vs Jacksonville Jaguars
The top two picks in the NFL draft will meet in Week 16 as the New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars will send Zach Wilson and Trevor Lawrence onto the field.
The books are giving the No. 2 pick the slight advantage as the Jets are 1.5-point favorites over the Jags.
