GREEN BAY, Wisc. – Sports betting fans in Wisconsin will finally see regulated betting with the Oneida Casino in Green Bay launching a sportsbook. Since no statewide regulations have been set, this will be the only sportsbook in Wisconsin.
The Oneida Tribe has sent in its new agreement to the US Bureau of Indian Affairs and is hoping to host its betting operation in time for the upcoming NFL season.
Despite no laws changing, this is a major expansion on Wisconsin gambling. Sports betting fans in the Badger State can finally have a place to wager on the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Bucks.
Sports Betting In Wisconsin
Prior to the Oneida Tribe bringing a sportsbook to their casino, online sportsbooks were the only option for betting on sports in Wisconsin.
The casino operation is aiming to offer a plethora of betting lines once they go live. There is even interest in offer odds for nonsporting events as well.
Odds for things like the Grammys or the Oscars are on the table as the Oneida Tribe will have the final say on what can and cannot be wagered on.
"The tribe has broad discretion over the types of events that can be offered for wagering that are non-sports related," said Tatyana Warrick, speaking for the state Department of Administration.
Should the Oneida Tribe see major success with their sole sportsbook, legislators may be tempted to complete expanding gambling in Wisconsin to bring sports betting statewide.
Local betting fans can look at this as a trial run for what could happen in the future. Should there be a massive success in betting, statewide sports betting could be discussed as a new way for regular revenue.
