LAS VEGAS - Entain is currently one of the world's biggest sports betting and gaming companies, and it just got bigger. On Thursday, Entain acquired Seattle-based esports betting platform Unikrn, a company associated and backed by celebrities like Mark Cuban and Ashton Kutcher.
Unikrn Will Return
Although Unikrn now belongs to Entain, it apparently will not be absorbed or shut down due to the buy-out. Visitors of the company’s website are greeted by a message regarding the situation, affirming that it's not over for Unikrn.
"We'll be back in 2022! Entain, one of the world's largest sports betting and gaming companies, has agreed to acquire Unikrn's gaming and wagering assets. This means Unikrn will soon have more services than ever before! However, the sale and restructure requires that we cease operations while this transition occurs."
Those who engage in Online esports betting can rest assured that Unikrn plans to be back stronger than ever in 2022.
Ahead Of The Esports Curve
Both companies seem to benefit from the buy-out, since Unikrn will continue to exist and provide its services, but with support from its parent company Entain.
"From the beginning, we knew that gaming is the future of entertainment and that, with special attention, wagering could give gamers and esports fans more excitement in their passion. We're proud of what we've built with our partners, investors and global team, and can't wait for Entain to empower us for round 2!" said Karl Flores, Unikrn CEO and co-founder, in a news release.
Former Head of Twitch Esports, Justin Dellario, has also been tapped to spearhead Entain's venture into the world of esports. Appointed as the head of their esports division, Dellario was chosen due to his experience with esports from his time at Twitch, the largest video game streaming platform in the world.
The online gambling industry is seeing a quickly growing market for esports, and Entain is certainly planning to capitalize on it.
