- The Pennsylvania Lottery raised $1.2 billion for senior programs in PA in FY 2021-22.
- About $5 billion in traditional lottery sales were made.
- This was the second-best lottery year for PA in history, behind only 2020-21.
HARRISBURG, Penn. – The Pennsylvania Lottery announced that they had raised more than $1 billion for senior programs in the state for the 11th consecutive year.
The $1.2 billion raised in the 2021-22 fiscal year was one of the best lotto years in gambling history for Pennsylvania.
The Pennsylvania Lottery accounted for more than $5 billion in total traditional lottery sales, and almost three-quarters of a billion in online lottery sales.
Of that $5 billion, scratch-off lottery tickets were responsible for about $3.5 billion, or 70% of traditional lottery revenue in PA.
Draw games – both traditional and online –- were responsible for $1.3 billion.
Notably, both of these numbers are decreases from the 2020-21 fiscal year numbers. In 2020-21, scratchers brought in about $3.75 billion, while draw games totaled $1.35 billion.
However, the PA lottery still put a positive spin on this – and rightfully so.
PA Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko praised the year the lottery had, saying:
“This fiscal year was the second-best for sales and second-best for profits in the lottery’s 50-year history. That means Pennsylvania seniors will continue to have access to free and reduced-fare transportation, prescription assistance, free meals, rent and property tax rebates and a host of other programs and services that are funded by the lottery. We are extremely proud of our commitment and mission to continue funding the programs that benefit older Pennsylvanians.”
